Here are a truly beautiful small pair of 19th Century oil paintings on board - most likely Dutch, but certainly continental, of two coastal scenes. The paintings are unsigned,The first painting depicts a woman heading home with the catch of the day in two pails, passing sailors mending their nets after a day at sea - in the background a castle nestles at the foot of snowy mountains, twinkling in the distance.The second painting is of a ship pulled in to the shore with the final rays of the sun setting on the horizon with the bank of snow capped mountains catching the last rays of rosy light. I really love this one, especially the way the shafts of light emanate out of the clouds - it really is a wonderfully atmospheric little painting.Both pictures are behind glass and have matching gilt gesso frames. The frames have the expected signs of wear for their age but are in sound condition, and as I hope the photographs show look really handsome together.The paintings measur...
