Antique silver Cyma pocket watch and chain.

The watch has a Cyma ref 999 15-jewel (3 adjustments) stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London 1918 with a sponsor’s mark for Arthur Rendell.

In 1907, an act came into force which meant that all imported watches had to be assayed in a UK assay office and marked with British import hallmarks. For this, a sponsor's mark was required. In this particular case, Arthur Rendell was an employee, and probably in charge, of the department that handled imported watches at a company called Pringles, the UK's largest wholesalers of jewellery, silverware, clocks and watches, so it was deemed relevant to use his initials.

The case is in good condition, and the engine turned detail to the back of the watch is still nice and crisp. Central vacant cartouche.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with original blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes with an single silver chain, 27cm long including the T-bar and the clasp, and also an engraved silver and enamel fob Walsall & District Junior League, hallmarked for 1923.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
