Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The painting centres around a beautiful country maid holding a bowl of milk standing in a typically idyllic rural landscape. It was not unusual in the Georgian period and later for copies of famous works to be made and this is a particularly good example. The painting is in excellent condition having been sympathetically and professionally cleaned. The frame is the original and is in good country house condition having a few old repairs. The whole is a wonderful example of late eighteenth century painting and in amazing untouched condition. The piece is hugely decorative and would enhance any period interior giving the perfect English country house look. C.1790.
