A 17th-century William and Mary figured walnut chest of drawers of diminutive proportions, circa 1690-1700. England.
The cross-grain moulded, feather and crossbanded quarter veneered walnut top sits above two short and two long oak-lined graduating feather-banded drawers within the cross-grain D-moulding carcass, raised on solid walnut bun feet.
Compact figured walnut chests such as this from the last quarter of the 17th century are extremely rare.
It should be noted that the chest is of very good colour with well-patinated surfaces throughout.
