Antique Mahogany Collector's Chest

19th century
Description

A fantastic tabletop collectors cabinet dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It is a good quality piece made from mahogany with fine dovetail joints. It has brass knobs and stands on small bracket feet.

Chests such as this were used for storing all sorts of things - collectors would use them to store samples in, whether that be rocks, butterflies, eggs or coins etc. This particular chest has six drawers, graduating in depth from top to bottom.

Overall it is in good original condition and is certainly a very usable piece. There are signs of age and use and the cabinet has picked up some knocks and scuffs and small marks over the years but the drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly. There have been some historic repairs, some of the locks are missing and the knobs have been replaced at some point but overall it still displays very well.

The best description comes from the photographs so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
