Victorian Yew Wood Wellington Chest

19th century
Description

A good example of a small Wellington Chest dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It was most likely originally used as a specimen or collectors chest and it is large enough to stand on the floor or could be used on a tabletop.

It is an excellent quality piece with turned wooden knobs, dovetail joints and beautifully figured Yew Wood timbers. The chest has 5 drawers in total flanked by two wellington style pillars. The right hand one locks shut to secure the drawers and it comes with a working key. It stands on four small turned bun feet.

It is in good original condition and is certainly a very usable piece. There are some minor signs of age and use and the cabinet has picked up some small knocks and scuffs over the years and a small chip to the back but no major damages. The drawers are generally clean and tidy inside and all open smoothly. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.

The best description comes from the photographs so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
