Antique Waltham P S Bartlett pocket watch.

The watch has a good quality P S Bartlett grade 15 jewel adjusted stem-winding movement which is working nicely. As well as being fully signed, the movement has the serial number 4,592,444 which dates it back to circa 1890. Beautifully patterned nickel finish movement, Church 1885 patent regulator and Breguet hairspring. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover, there is a little surface marking and some unevenness to this inner cover.

The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.

The watch measures 56mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop, so larger than the standard 50mm pocket watch. The case is gold filled and was made by the Crescent Watch Case Company. It is beautifully detailed and in very nice condition.

The thick glass lens is in good condition, just a small nibble to the bevelled edge.

The signed double sunk dial looks good to the naked eye. There are a couple of very faint hairlines visible through a magnifying loupe. Lovely elegant blued steel hands.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
