Antique silver Waltham hunter pocket watch, Speedwell Cycling Club.

The watch has a seven jewel Traveler grade stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 11,858,780 which dates it back to 1902.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a lovely inscription, ‘1st Prize, Speedwell Bicycle Club, Open “100”, C A Morris, July 1st 1922”.

The watch measures 52mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1919 with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison of the Dennison Watch Case Company. Dennisons supplied most of the cases for Waltham UK.

There is a date discrepancy between the movement and the case which suggests the whole movement, although older than the case, was probably fitted as a more economical option than a repair. The movement is of the correct manufacturer and grade as the original would have been and that is why there is no physical sign or scar damage.

The front and the back of the case have some unevenness.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in good condition.

The signed dial is in lovely condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
