Wheel barometers, like this fully working mahogany example from the 1830s, embody many of the characteristics and features we associate with Georgian interiors and the ''age of elegance'' - its slender mahogany case edged in ebony and boxwood, houses four separate finely engraved silvered dials that indicate the humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and position of the case, together with a charming miniature convex mirror. It is topped with a swans-neck pediment and elegant turned brass finial. ''I Spelzini'' and the trading address ''91 Leather Lane, Holborn'' can be read on the bottom dial - I Spelzini were London-based instrument makers that can be traced back to the reign of George III. This barometer has been previously restored to a good standard and is in excellent working condition.
