A wonderful piece of furniture, this fine 18th century French Régence commode or chest of drawers has a feel of the massive about it. With the beautiful patina and deep colour expected for a piece of walnut of this age, it has lovely large elaborately decorative drawer handles and huge escutcheons, with deeply panelled sides and beautifully carved drawer fronts, all typical of the transitional style between the heavy Louis XIV and the more Rococo influenced style of Louis XV. It has a serpentine shape to the front, with rounded corners and stands on bracket feet. This will make a great storage piece for a good sized room.
Dating to circa 1720, this is made of walnut and originates from France.
In good age related condition, this has the lovely patina and colour of age with some ring marks and knots polished into the top, providing character to the piece. No key is available and there is a knot hole in the base of the top drawer, although this does not affect function and the drawer can be lined.
