Description

This is a superb example the rare MK 1 Omega Constellation Bumper automatic model 2731

Professionally serviced with 12 month warranty.

The diameter is 35mm excluding the original crown.

The movement is the calibre 354 Chronometer grade Bumper automatic, this was Omegas highest grade movement.

An Omega "bumper" is a vintage Omega that has a "bumper" automatic movement rather than a full rotation rotor automatic. The oscillating weight makes a partial rotation before "bumping" into a cushioning spring. This is the earliest type of automatic movement.

The case is an amazing unrestored example, all of the edges are clean and sharp, it has never been polished or restored.

The textured dial has been sympathetically restored at some point and is near perfect with just a very fine even patination to the surface, the only work we have done to this watch is to service the movement and give the case a thorough ultrasonic clean.

As you would expect the watch is fully marked on the dial, movement and case. Overall this watch is in superb condition. It has clearly been seldom worn and an absolute must for Omega collectors.

It is very rare to find this watch with its original early tan leather constellation box, they are almost never seen.

It has the Constellation logo on the back of the case which is bright and crisp, all of the stars are clearly visible.

It is very rare to find this watch in such amazing condition and much sought after by collectors and as you can see from the timgraph trace it keeps excellent time, still within original Omega specification

Date of Manufacture

Fowey River Antiques has dated this Vintage Omega Constellation Watch to the 1950s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bumper automatic movement is an early self-winding mechanism where a weighted rotor swings back and forth through a limited arc, bouncing off springs rather than rotating fully 360 degrees, which is a characteristic feature of mid-20th-century timepieces.

Mid-century luxury wristwatches typically featured stainless steel or solid gold cases, acrylic crystals, and genuine leather straps, often paired with gold-plated or steel dials and hands.

Authentic pieces generally feature the signature observatory medallion on the case back, correct typography on the dial, and matching serial numbers on the movement and inside the case corresponding to the production era.

A vintage timepiece can be styled on a dedicated display stand, stored within its original presentation box on a dresser, or integrated into a curated collectors tray alongside other mid-century objects.

Preservation involves regular servicing by a qualified horologist every three to five years, avoiding exposure to moisture and magnetic fields, and manually winding non-automatic models with care.
