Meiji period bronze art refers to metalwork produced in Japan between 1868 and 1912, characterised by exceptional casting techniques, intricate detailing, and the rise of animalier sculptures created for both domestic and international markets.

These pieces were typically crafted using the traditional lost-wax casting method, followed by meticulous hand-chiselling, patination, and finishing by skilled metalworkers to achieve realistic textures.

Authentic pieces often feature artist signatures or foundry seals, heavy weight relative to size, complex patination showing natural ageing, and exceptionally lifelike anatomical detailing.

An antique bronze sculpture serves as a strong focal point when placed on a desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece, contrasting well with minimalist contemporary furniture and neutral colour palettes.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners, abrasives, or water, as these can strip the original historical patina.
