Oil Painting - Fishing at Eckington Bridge, Worcestershire - Sidney Currie (Active 1876 - 1930)

19th century
Description

Here is a framed oil on canvas of two small boys fishing at Eckington Briidge, over the River Avon in Worcestershire, as a lady stops by to admire their catch.

The painting, probably completed at the end of the 19th century, is a glimpse back at a rural idyll, the old medieval bridge spanning a river teeming with life and water lilies, as cattle graze and the fields and woodland drift off into the hazy distance. The painting is signed to the lower left hand side of the picture.

An accomplished English painter, Sidney Currie was born in Birmingham and exhibited at the Royal Academy as well as the ROI ( Royal Institute of Oil Painters ), and the RBSA ( Royal Birmingham Society of Artists) and his work is also in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

The picture measures 45.5cm by 59cm, and comes in a moulded gilt frame which make it measure 60cm by 76cm. It is in a lovely condition, but does show the gentle surface wear to be expected of a painting of this age, for example very fine craquelure - please see the photographs and don't hesitate to ask if I can provide any more/ different angles or any further information.

I offer free delivery throughout the UK, and am very happy to help with quotes for shipping abroad.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
