How do I clean a vintage ushak carpet?

Vacuum gently without a rotating brush to protect the antique wool pile from unnecessary friction and fibre loss. Professional specialist cleaning is recommended for periodic deep washing to preserve the natural dyes.

Where should I place a large ushak carpet?

These generous formats suit principal reception rooms, dining areas, and expansive hallways where furniture can rest partially on the field. Ensure you use a quality underlay to prevent slipping and reduce wear on the cotton and wool foundation.

Are these carpets suitable for heavy foot traffic?

The robust wool construction and dense hand-knotting make these durable enough for everyday use in active household zones. Rotating the carpet occasionally helps distribute foot traffic evenly across the surface over the years.

How do I identify an older ushak carpet?

Examine the reverse side for irregularity in the knotting and natural variations in the foundation yarns, which indicate hand production. Look for the soft, vegetable-dyed colour palettes and traditional star or medallion motifs typical of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Anatolian work.
