What periods do these tables come from?

The selection includes pieces spanning the Georgian and Victorian eras, through the Edwardian period, and into 1930s Art Deco designs. Each era brings distinct proportions and stylistic preferences to the circular table format. Craftsmanship and material choices shifted across these decades, moving from formal mahogany dining pieces to rustic elm kitchen tables and sleek walnut coffee tables.

How were tripod tables used historically?

Tripod tables served flexible roles in domestic interiors, easily moved near firesides or windows for tea, reading, or needlework. Their three-legged design provided stable placement on uneven floorboards. Many featured tilt-top actions, allowing the surface to fold vertical and rest against a wall when not in use to save valuable floor space.

Are these tables suitable for everyday use?

Solid wood construction and durable timber choices make these pieces well-suited for daily domestic life. Occasional, coffee, and pub tables adapt readily to contemporary living rooms and kitchens. Routine maintenance involves basic dusting and occasional treatment appropriate for the specific wood finish to preserve the natural grain and patina.

How can I identify an Art Deco table?

Art Deco tables, typically dating around 1930, display streamlined silhouettes, geometric forms, and exotic veneers like burr walnut and birch. They often avoid heavy carving in favour of clean, sweeping lines. These pieces frequently manifest as low coffee tables or multi-tiered centre tables, reflecting the modern design priorities of the interwar period.
