How do I choose the right size?

Check the internal dimensions against standard mattress sizes before purchase, as older frames can vary from modern measurements. Account for the exterior headboard and footboard dimensions, particularly if space is limited in smaller bedrooms.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Most period wooden beds use traditional bolt connections or tapered slot joints rather than modern cam fittings. Take care during assembly to align the original side rails and maintain the square of the frame.

How should I clean the wood?

Dust regularly with a dry lint-free cloth and apply a quality beeswax periodically to nourish the timber finish. Avoid liquid cleaners and silicone sprays, which can penetrate open grain and soften traditional waxes.

Can modern mattresses fit them?

Standard modern mattresses generally fit, though custom slatted bases or mattress supports may be necessary for older frames. Verify the internal ledge height and width to ensure adequate support for contemporary mattress depths.
