A tufted lounge chair is a nineteenth-century seat featuring deep buttoning across its upholstered surfaces. These pieces include open armchairs, daybeds, and chaise longues. They combine wooden frames in mahogany or walnut with tactile fabrics like velvet to provide deep comfort.

How do I date a tufted lounge chair?

Dating relies on identifying nineteenth-century construction methods, timber choices, and stylistic markers. Pieces from this era often show Victorian carved wooden frames alongside traditional buttoning. Reference points include specific decades such as eighteen fifty or eighteen seventy, as seen in nineteenth-century daybeds and armchairs.

Where should I place a daybed?

A Victorian reclining daybed or chaise longue fits well in a living room, study, or bedroom where long periods of relaxation occur. Their elongated forms require adequate floor space to be fully appreciated. Positioning them away from direct sunlight protects the velvet and cotton upholstery fabrics.
