What metals are used in these statues?

The listings show a variety of base metals including bronze, brass, copper alloys, and spelter. These are frequently finished with silver plating, silvered bronze, or cold paint. Some examples also incorporate mixed media elements such as carved hardwood or stone bases like marble and onyx.

How do I identify an Art Deco piece?

Art Deco statues typically feature stylised human figures, dancers, and sleek animals like panthers or greyhounds. They often date from the 1920s and 1930s. Many of these works rest on geometric marble bases and reflect the modern design movements of the period.

Are these figures signed by artists?

Several pieces bear signatures or attributions to prominent modellers from the early twentieth century. These marks are usually cast directly into the metal or inscribed near the base. Signatures provide a clear indication of the designer and help distinguish studio pieces from anonymous commercial production.

How should I care for silvered metal?

Silvered and plated surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth to prevent abrasion. Avoid chemical polishes that can strip thin plating or damage cold-painted details. Keeping the pieces in a stable environment away from excessive moisture protects both the metal and any stone mounting.
