How do I clean sevres style porcelain urns?

Dust the porcelain and bronze mounts gently with a soft dry brush. Avoid liquid cleaners because moisture damages the painted enamel and gilt finishes. Keep the items away from direct sunlight to protect the cobalt blue and turquoise glazes from fading over time.

Were these urns made to hold water?

These decorative vessels function primarily as ornamental display pieces rather than functional flower holders. Their internal construction and metal mounting hardware suit dry interior styling. Placing water inside risks damaging the ceramic body, the internal adhesives, and the surrounding metal mounts.

How do I identify nineteenth century pieces?

Examine the weight and colour of the bronze mounts, which typically show hand-chasing characteristic of the period. Look for traditional French factory marks, impressed numbers, and painter signatures beneath the glaze. Compare the style of the hand-painted reserves against known nineteenth-century design patterns and revival aesthetics.

Can I use clock garnitures daily?

Clock garnitures operate reliably when serviced by a professional horologist who understands nineteenth-century mechanical movements. Wind the clock carefully using the correct key without over-tensioning the spring. Ensure the garniture sits on a level mantelpiece to keep the pendulum swinging evenly and accurately.
