Where were these rugs made?

These textiles originate from various regions within the Caucasus mountains, including Shirvan, Kuba, Daghestan, Kazak and Karabagh. Local weaving traditions shaped the distinct patterns, wool qualities and colour combinations found in each valley and village.

How do I care for an antique rug?

Protect the textile by placing it in areas with moderate foot traffic and avoiding prolonged direct sunlight. Vacuum gently without a rotating brush roll and consult a specialist for professional cleaning when necessary.

How are different regional types told apart?

Distinctions rely on the specific geometric motifs, border arrangements, knotting structures and colour palettes. For instance, Kazak pieces favour large bold medallions, whereas Daghestan and Shirvan examples frequently display tighter lattice patterns and stars.
