Where should I place a persian central medallion rug?

These rugs anchor living rooms, studies, or dining areas where their central design commands attention. Positioning them away from intense direct sunlight preserves the natural dyes. Using a quality underlay protects the foundation fibres from premature wear on hard flooring surfaces.

How do I clean a antique rug?

Gentle surface brushing and professional specialist cleaning maintain the wool, cotton, or silk fibres safely. Avoid harsh chemical detergents that strip natural colour. Allowing professionals who understand historic textiles to handle washing prevents structural damage to the foundation.

What does a central medallion signify?

The central motif often symbolises heavenly spheres or garden layouts within traditional design vocabulary. Weavers balanced surrounding floral and geometric elements to create harmony. Different villages interpreted this focal point through their distinct regional artistic traditions.

How do I identify regional styles?

Examine the specific knotting structure, palette, and secondary border motifs for clues to origin. Hamadan, Bakhtiar, and Sarouk pieces each exhibit characteristic handling of wool and dye. Comparing structural details helps differentiate between nineteenth-century and later twentieth-century village production.
