How do I care for an outdoor cast iron table?

Keep the metal clean and protect the surfaces from standing moisture during harsh winter months to preserve the finish. Apply protective coatings periodically if the iron shows signs of weathering or paint wear.

Were these tables meant for indoor or outdoor use?

Many examples served double duty in gardens, patios, conservatories, and Victorian pubs. Their heavy construction allowed them to remain outdoors without tipping in the wind.

How can I tell a Victorian table from a later piece?

Victorian examples often display heavier casting work and specific nineteenth-century design motifs. Later pieces from the 1920s and 1930s sometimes adopt simpler lines or art deco influences.

What materials are typical for the tabletops?

Marble and granite are common, providing a cool, smooth surface that withstands weather. Wooden tops involving elm, cedar, beech, or pine also appear alongside stone and metal.
