Will a modern mattress fit a king size brass bedstead?

Most antique king size frames accommodate standard modern mattresses, though slight variations in nineteenth-century sizing can occur. Checking the internal rail measurements ensures a correct fit before bedding is added. Supporting slats or modern base units can be easily integrated into the existing iron side rails. This allows contemporary comfort levels while preserving the historic appearance of the exterior framework.

How do I care for antique brass and iron?

Routine maintenance requires only a soft cloth to remove dust from the metal surfaces and decorative castings. Avoiding harsh chemical polishes preserves the natural patination built up over decades of age. Iron frames finished in paint or japanned lacquer should be kept dry to prevent corrosion beneath the coating. Gentle cleaning maintains the deep lustre of the brass without stripping its historic finish.

Are these beds easy to assemble?

Antique metal bedframes utilise wedge-lock or bolt-in side rail connections that dismantle completely for transport and installation. The heavy iron and brass components slot together securely without requiring permanent fixings. Two people are generally required to handle the substantial weight of the headboard, footboard, and iron side rails safely. Once aligned, the frame locks rigidly into place to support weight reliably.
