Gold Painted Accent Table
When you search for a gold painted accent table, you find a diverse selection of decorative small tables and lamp tables originating from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These pieces encompass various regional aesthetic traditions, including Chinoiserie, Kashmiri, Italian, and French revival styles.
The most common forms on this page include occasional tables, side tables, and table lamps utilising wood, lacquer, and paint finishes. Pieces range from Victorian and Edwardian examples to items dated through the 1900s, 1910s, 1920s, and 1930s.
Buyers encounter items such as nests of tables, tray tables, and two-tier étagères featuring gilt gold, brass, and parcel-gilt details. Each form serves a functional surface role while introducing ornamental painted character to an interior.
How they were made
Construction relies primarily on wood frameworks finished with layers of paint, lacquer, or applied gold leaf and gilt decoration. Artisans built surfaces to receive intricate hand-painted motifs, particularly in Asian-inspired Chinoiserie and Kashmiri traditions.
Specialised techniques include parcel-gilt highlighting, where selective gilding accentuates carved details or painted borders, alongside toleware and lacquer applications on metal and wood substrates. Some pieces incorporate marble tops or brass hardware to add structural contrast and weight.
Finishing methods varied by region, from the dark black lacquer grounds of Chinoiserie pieces to the vibrant green and gold palettes characteristic of Kashmiri craftsmanship and the softer patinas of French and Italian revival tables.

What varies in quality
Quality rests significantly on the intricacy and preservation of the hand-painted detail and the application of the gold leaf or gilt finish. Tables displaying fine, detailed brushwork and well-preserved lacquered surfaces sit at the higher end of the range.
The integrity of the underlying woodwork and the harmony between structural form and decorative finish define the execution. Finer examples maintain crisp definition in parcel-gilt highlights and stable joins across multi-tiered and nest configurations.
