How do I use a partners desk?

Partners desks are designed to sit freestanding in the middle of a room rather than against a wall. Dual access allows two people to sit opposite each other while using the drawers and writing surface. The deep proportions and double-sided storage make them practical for shared office spaces or large studies. Their finished backs ensure they look correct from any angle in a room.

What is a Gainsborough chair?

A Gainsborough chair is a wide, upholstered armchair specifically designed for use at a desk or writing table. They feature open padded arms and a low back to allow freedom of movement. These chairs bridge the gap between heavy formal seating and practical office furniture. They suit domestic studies and libraries where comfort matters alongside period aesthetics.

How do I tell an original from a revival piece?

Distinguishing original eighteenth-century pieces from later revival items involves examining construction methods, timber ageing, and secondary woods. Revival pieces often display machine-cut elements or uniform timber that lacks natural fading. Looking closely at drawer linings and joint construction clarifies the period of manufacture. Earlier items display hand-cut dovetails and timber movement consistent with great age.

Are drum tables practical for daily work?

Drum tables provide a stable circular surface with multiple perimeter drawers for storing stationery and small items. Their rotating tops allow users to reach different compartments without moving the base. While they offer less knee clearance than standard pedestal desks, their compact footprint suits smaller studies. They function well as centre tables that double as writing surfaces.
