What is a gueridon table?

A gueridon is a traditional French circular table, usually supported by a single central pedestal or column. These pieces were originally used for holding lights or decorative objects in grand rooms. Over time, the form evolved into a versatile occasional table suitable for holding lamps or drinks in domestic settings.

How do I use a bouillotte table?

Bouillotte tables are traditionally small accent pieces featuring a low brass gallery rim around the stone top. The raised edge was originally designed to keep candles or cards from sliding onto the floor. Today, they work well beside seating areas or as bedside stands where the gallery provides practical security for small items.

Are marble tops original to these tables?

Most antique circular tables retain their original stone slabs, which were cut specifically to fit the wooden frame. You can often judge originality by the natural wear patterns and how the underside of the stone fits the frieze. Replacement tops do occur, but skilled cabinetmakers ensured that period stone matched the weight and dimensions required by the base.

How do I care for antique marble?

Antique marble requires gentle cleaning with warm water and a soft cloth, avoiding acidic cleaners that can etch the polished surface. Regular dusting helps preserve the natural sheen of the stone. Using coasters and mats will protect the porous surface from moisture rings and stains over years of daily use.
