Will a modern king mattress fit?

Many antique iron beds accommodate standard king mattress sizes, though historical dimensions can vary slightly from modern manufacturing standards. It is advisable to check the internal rail measurements before sourcing a mattress to ensure a correct and secure fit.

How do these beds assemble?

Most antique iron bedsteads utilise wedge locks, side rail slots or original iron clamps that slot together without requiring modern fixings. This traditional construction allows the headboard, footboard and side rails to separate easily for transport and straightforward home assembly.

Are they sturdy enough for daily use?

The combination of heavy cast iron and wrought iron creates an exceptionally rigid framework capable of supporting modern mattress weights. Properly aligned side rails and secure joints ensure the bed remains stable and completely dependable for everyday sleeping arrangements.

How do I care for the metal finish?

Dust the iron and brass components regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent the accumulation of airborne particles. Avoid harsh chemical cleaning products that might strip painted surfaces or alter the natural patina on exposed brass elements.
