What periods do these pictures come from?

The pieces span from the eighteenth century through the Victorian era and into the mid-twentieth century. They reflect the framing and artistic preferences of the Georgian, Regency and Edwardian periods. Most items date from the nineteenth century, capturing traditional techniques in engraving, photography and silhouette portraiture.

Are the frames original to the art?

Many listings preserve their original frames, particularly those featuring ebonised wood, carved walnut or period gilt accents. These matching elements help anchor the piece to its era of origin. Some works may be paired with later timber frames that complement the historical style of the print or painting inside.

How do I care for ebonised wood frames?

Ebonised timber requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth to prevent the accumulation of grit in the carved details. Avoid liquid cleaners that might degrade the dark finish. Keep the pieces away from direct sunlight and damp environments to protect both the wooden frame and the paper or paint within.
