Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French primitive workbench dates from 1880, bringing rustic farmhouse character to a modern interior. The piece is constructed from timber, combining oak and pine with a warm brown finish that highlights the aged grain and hand-hewn surfaces. The design incorporates a thick slab top over a panelled front cabinet base and an integrated wooden vice mechanism on the left side with a round handle and heavy vertical support. Signs of age appear in the weathered texture of the wood, the visible joints, and the rustic hardware details. The workbench measures 70 cm high, 180 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this sturdy utility piece serves as a striking console table in a hallway or living room, a functional side table in a kitchen, or a distinctive display surface for books and decorative objects.

FAQs

French primitive furniture refers to utilitarian, hand-crafted pieces made in rural regions of France using locally sourced timber and basic woodworking tools.

These workbenches were constructed primarily from dense hardwoods like oak, elm, or beech, featuring mortise and tenon joinery and solid timber vice mechanisms.

Authentic examples display hand-hewn tool marks, original wooden screw vices or peg fastenings, structural weight, and natural surface wear from historical workshop use.

A primitive workbench can function as a characterful console table in an entrance hallway, a freestanding kitchen island, or a focal sideboard in a living space.

Clean the surface with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax occasionally to protect the wood grain and preserve the original patina.
