Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early nineteenth century Austrian fruitwood settle bench follows an Austrian folk art design, rendered in a warm brown timber with a smooth polished finish and visible natural grain variations. The traditional construction incorporates a flat wooden seat, a high panelled backrest containing two sections of intricate pierced openwork carving, and low wooden armrests flanking the seat ends. Slender splayed legs support the frame underneath, angling outwards towards the floor. The piece measures 85 cm high, 189 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, with a seat height of 50 cm. Suitable for daily use in a hallway, kitchen or dining space, this rustic farmhouse seating option provides a practical bench for seating while introducing traditional woodworking character to domestic interiors.

FAQs

An Austrian fruitwood settle bench is a traditional regional seating piece crafted from dense native timbers such as cherry, apple, or pear wood. These items traditionally feature high backrests, openwork fretwork, and sturdy pegged joinery created for Alpine domestic interiors.

Regional folk furniture typically relies on solid mortise and tenon joinery, wooden locking pegs, and hand-planed timber surfaces. Artisans frequently incorporated decorative pierced carving and angled splayed legs to provide stability on uneven stone floors.

Authentic pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship, such as asymmetrical hand-carved details, tool marks on unexposed surfaces, and natural wood shrinkage around joints. The patination and wear patterns on seat boards and armrests reflect genuine usage.

A wooden settle functions well in an entrance hallway, boot room, or positioned along a long dining table. Modern interiors often balance the solid wood structure by pairing it with simple linen cushions or minimalist architectural backdrop elements.

Fruitwood requires dusting with a dry microfiber cloth and occasional applications of clear beeswax polish to maintain moisture and patina. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and extreme fluctuations in humidity to prevent warping or cracking.
