Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian garden dining set comprises four cast-iron chairs and a circular pedestal table made of heavy cast iron, finished in a clean white paint. The pieces display detailed botanical relief work, scrollwork backrests, pierced lattice seats, and a tripod table base with ornate feet. The table incorporates a pre-1884 lozenge date stamp, and the chairs are freshly stripped and repainted. The table measures 72 cm high and 60 cm wide, with matching proportions suited for seating four. Suitable for outdoor dining or social gatherings, the set fits comfortably on a patio, garden terrace, or sunlit conservatory. The durable cast-iron construction withstands regular external use while maintaining its decorative, period-appropriate appearance for entertaining guests or everyday outdoor relaxation.

FAQs

Victorian cast-iron garden furniture emerged during the mid-19th century following advances in foundry technology, featuring intricate botanical, Gothic, and naturalistic patterns popularized by foundries such as Coalbrookdale.

These pieces were crafted by pouring molten grey iron into sand moulds, producing heavy and detailed components that were joined with mechanical fasteners before receiving protective painted coatings.

Authentic period pieces frequently display foundry markings or design registration stamps, significant physical weight, crisp casting details from sand moulds, and historical nut-and-bolt joinery.

A cast-iron dining set can be positioned on a stone terrace, within a conservatory, or inside a sunroom, complemented by neutral seat cushions or climbing greenery to soften the structural lines.

To preserve painted cast iron, inspect the surface periodically for oxidisation, wash with soapy water, sand down flaking areas, and reapply a suitable rust-inhibiting exterior paint.
