Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts wall shelves feature clean lines, functional construction, and an emphasis on the natural grain of the timber. Originating as a reaction against mass production, the style prioritises handcraftsmanship, simple geometric forms, and minimal surface ornamentation.

These shelves are commonly constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, pine, or walnut, joined using traditional woodworking techniques. Mounting fittings typically feature wrought iron or brass rings attached directly to the top of the side uprights.

Authentic pieces demonstrate traditional joinery techniques, such as mortise and tenon joints or subtle pegging, rather than modern adhesives or concealed fasteners. Look for period-appropriate hand-finished timber patination, natural wear around shelf edges, and original hanging hardware.

Mount the shelving on a neutral wall surface in an entryway, kitchen, or alcove to create a functional focal point. Arrange curated items such as studio pottery, small books, or trailing indoor plants across the tiers to balance visual weight.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth following the direction of the grain. Apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the surface and maintain the timbers finish, avoiding chemical sprays or excess moisture.
