Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French provincial wooden plinth carries an original distressed off-white painted finish with visible wear, wood grain texture, and exposed timber beneath the surface. The construction incorporates a stepped top, a stepped base, and moulded panel trim on all four sides. The structure stands 116 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 69 cm deep, requiring a two-person lift and offering substantial weight-bearing capacity for heavy decorative pieces. Positioned in an empty corner or hallway within a French chateau interior setting, the pedestal provides an architectural display surface for a bust, statue, or vase. The substantial proportions and painted wooden surface integrate into traditional room schemes while holding focal objects securely. The dimensions allow placement in various orientations depending on the available floor space.

FAQs

French architectural plinths and pedestals were traditional elevated bases designed to display classical busts, sculptures, or decorative urns within historic grand interiors.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid softwoods or hardwoods such as pine and oak, finished with hand-applied paint, gesso, or milk paint washes.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural paint wear, visible timber shrinkage along joinery seams, hand-cut moulding profiles, and layered paint patination rather than artificial distressing.

Position the pedestal in an alcove, entry hall, or corner to display contemporary ceramics, indoor plants, or figurative sculpture to introduce verticality and texture.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid water or chemical solvents that could loosen flaking paint or deteriorate the underlying timber.
