Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Forged iron bedsteads are metal bed frames crafted by heating and shaping iron bars using traditional blacksmithing tools and methods. Popularised during the nineteenth century, these beds were praised for their structural durability, resistance to pests, and clean, architectural lines.

Traditional iron beds consist of solid wrought or cast iron rails, spindles, and legs joined together using cast iron corner joints or hand-poured iron hitches. The frames are painted or lacquered to prevent oxidisation and feature slatted or mesh bases to support mattress systems.

Authentic period metal beds often display heavy hand-forged or cast iron joinery, irregular weld marks, and integrated corner dovetail cast brackets rather than modern threaded bolts. Original pieces also show genuine patination, layered paint finishes, or mild surface oxidisation consistent with age.

A pair of iron single beds can be placed side-by-side in a guest room with matching crisp white linens to emphasize their silhouette, or configured as a combined king-sized arrangement. Complementing them with natural wooden nightstands, woven wool rugs, and muted neutral textiles highlights their industrial yet understated aesthetic.

Dust metal frames regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and clean gentle smudges using a soft, dampened rag with mild soap. To protect painted or unpainted iron from rust, apply a light coat of clear paste wax annually and keep the piece in a dry interior environment.
