The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, marking an era of intense modernisation where traditional Japanese metalworkers applied advanced casting techniques to create highly detailed, naturalistic bronze sculptures for global export.

These pieces are typically crafted using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods with high-grade copper-alloy bronze, often finished with chemical patination to achieve deep brown or black tones.

Authentic items feature fine, hand-chased surface details, naturalistic anatomical proportions, subtle patination variations, and occasionally artist signatures or foundry marks on the underside.

Display them as focal points on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or desk to add historical weight, tactile texture, and a sense of curated narrative to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical cleaners, polishes, or abrasive materials that can strip the historic patina.
