This pair of nineteenth century plant or vase stands originates from Asia in the Qing dynasty style. The set consists of two freestanding circular tables made from dark brown hardwood and timber with a lacquered finish. Each piece has a round inset top with a reddish brown timber panel surrounded by stepped circular mouldings. Below the top, pierced floral aprons feature dense carved decoration depicting natural floral motifs. The structure is supported by four cabriole legs that curve outwards with carved texture down their length, terminating in curled scroll feet. A central lower shelf stretcher sits between the legs, providing a circular surface near the base. The stands measure 71 cm high by 38 cm wide and 38 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this pair suits a gentleman's library, a formal hallway, or an empty corner. They function practically as elevated platforms to display potted plants, porcelain vases, or decorative sculptures. The matching pair creates a symmetrical arrangement when placed together or distributed across a room to hold ornamental objects.

Originally designed during the Qing Dynasty, carved hardwood stands were crafted to display porcelain vases, potted bonsai, or bronze vessels in traditional Asian homes and European export interiors.

Traditional stands were constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as zitan, hongmu, or rosewood, often featuring mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal fasteners, finished with dark lacquer or resin polish.

Authentic historic examples feature hand-carved joinery, floating inset top panels to accommodate timber expansion, detailed pierced aprons, and natural age-related patination rather than uniform machine work.

Position the pair symmetrically on either side of a doorway, console table, or fireplace alcove to elevate indoor greenery, decorative ceramics, or contemporary sculptures.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and keep the timber away from direct heat sources or extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent surface cracking and lacquer breakdown.
