An okimono is a decorative figurine traditionally displayed in an alcove or on a small stand, highly developed during the Meiji period with a focus on naturalistic detail and mastery of metalwork.

Meiji bronzes were typically created using the lost-wax casting method, featuring patinated alloys often enriched with intricate chasing, applied details, and signature foundry marks.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise anatomical accuracy, hand-finished patination, crisp surface detailing, and frequently bear foundry or artist seals on the underside or base.

Position the piece as a focal point on a credenza, mantle, or desk where its sculptural silhouette and dark patina can contrast against clean, neutral backgrounds.

Maintain antique bronze by dusting lightly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth; avoid chemical cleaners or polishes that can strip the historic patination.
