Cheshire Antiques Consultant Ltd has dated this piece to the 1940s.
Subject genre interior scene portrait of a young girl in full length side profile she is sitting down in a chair in the study, right in front of a bookcase looking down so intently reading her favourite story book. Her sandals are off laying on the patterned carpet floor.
A couple of books are also on the floor behind her chair and a small gilt landscape painting is hanging on the wall behind her.

Presented in original traditional mid century frame.

Artist biography William Turner U.A (1877–1969) Hilton House Polruan was a British Painter, notably of portraits, born in Andover, Hampshire. Studied at Southampton School of Art, 1895, and Andover School of Art, 1900. Exhibitor Royal Academy, Royal Society Of British Artists, United Society Of Artists,New Burlington Gallery London,Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh & Paris Salon France.

Showed at RA, UA of which he was a member, RBA and elsewhere, including Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, 1954–60. Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum, Bournemouth, holds his work, which was sometimes signed W T in monogram form. Lived in Liskeard, Cornwall.

Offered in fine used condition. The front painting surface is in good overall order with some foxing, craquelure to the surface in places and some minor paint loss towards the sides. The frame has general wear, scuffs scratches, chips, losses, scuffs in places commensurate with usage & age.A tear to the paper lining on the back which covers the canvas. Could do with a professional clean.
