Pair of Oil Painting Views of Versailles by Leopold Delbeke

A fine and interesting pair of oval oils on artist board depicting exterior views of the palace of Versailles by Leopold Delbeke 1866-1939. The two views are oblique exteriors centred on different pieces of sculpture that decorate the palace. The technique is very much in the impressionist manner with beautifully rendered light and shade. The pair are both signed with the signatures hidden in the stonework of the building. The works have been professionally cleaned and are in good condition but with one having a deep craquelure. The paintings retain the original painted and gilded simple frames which are in good untouched condition. Both works have the original exhibition labels on the reverse for The Salon de l'école Française in Paris. Leopold Delbeke was a French artist working in the modern style at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century he specialised in painting interior and exterior views of Versailles. The pair have a great decorative presence and are ready to hang. C.1910.
