Description

Robert Thorne Waite RWS 1842-1935.Landscape artist mainly in watercolour.Born in Cheltenham he studied at South Kensington .During the mid 1860s he worked at Bettws-y-Coed ,North Wales alongside his close contemporary,Thomas Collier,developing a style that emulated the work of David Cox and Copley Fielding.He exhibited at RA from 1870 but mainly at RWS.Elected ARWS 1876 and RWS 1884.A major exhibition of his work was held by the Bourne Gallery ,Reigate,Surrey in 1976.This important example of his work was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1913;provenence with Sotheby’s London lot 38 -13 th May 1987 when it realised £3800. ‘ ‘Haymaking ‘ signed watercolour;image size 55x76cms;framed size 74.5x94 cms
