During the 1700s it was customary for young boys, once breeched, to follow the fashion of their fathers. Such is the case for this young boy in his scarlet coat and white necktie. He even wears a smart blonde periwig.

Painted in oil on copper and set behind convex glass in what appears to be the original gold frame that is enclosed on the reverse.
