Within a seemingly simple composition, Panitzsch has tackled the complexity of several surfaces. The glass bowl, with its semi-transparent interior, perfectly rounded and near opaque in the shade. The ceramic vase, partially reflecting the colour of the bowl, and tapering towards the top. While the crisp apples, in green and red hues, are described with various undulations.
Panitzsch is predominantly known for his captivating scenes depicting quiet interiors with figures. But occasionally, he’d also produce still lifes, usually from within his own home. Here, in 1949, the final year of his life, he’s painted a decorative ensemble with the utmost proficiency.
