Winter Landscape Oil Painting by John Edwards

A fine example of the work of John ‘Snowy’ Edwards (Exh. 1880-1909), in oil on artist board. The painting shows an idyllic winter scene of Bottesford in Leicestershire. The work is typical of the artist in that it is a well composed and drawn-out winter landscape, beautifully capturing the texture of snow in an almost ‘Christmas card’ scene. The piece is signed ‘J Edwards’ on the reverse with the title. Edwards was a Nottingham based artist who was a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists, he exhibited between 1880-1909 and he is well known for winter landscapes of the Nottingham area. The painting has been cleaned at some point in the past but otherwise is in good untouched condition. The work retains what appears to be the original frame though it has been re-gilt at some point. The whole is a great example of a winter scene and has a beautiful period look. C.1890.
