Landscape Oil Painting by James Gustavus Hope Spindler

An interesting oil on board by Scottish artist James Gustavus Hope Spindler Exh1880-1907. The work is interestingly composed as a view down a woodland path to some figures on the wood edge standing in the light. The artist painted a famous golfing scene of Saint Andrews (Now in Dundee Museum) and it is likely that the figures in the distance are golfers. The work is signed to the fore ‘James G H Spindler’ and dated 1910. The painting has been professionally cleaned and is excellent condition. James Gustavus Hope Spindler was a Scottish artist who lived in Dundee and exhibited at The Royal Academy, London and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He exhibited most often in his native Scotland at both The Royal Scottish Academy and The Glasgow Institute of Fine Art both extremely prestigious galleries. This work is in the original fine quality and untouched gilt frame. The whole is a wonderful example of the work of this interesting Scottish artist.
