Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Qing dynasty, Chinese furniture makers produced multi-tiered tables and stands tailored for both domestic presentation and Western export. These pieces typically feature dark native hardwoods, intricate mother-of-pearl inlays, inset marble tops, and pierced openwork carving.

These tables were constructed using dense hardwoods such as Hongmu or rosewood, joined with mortise and tenon woodwork. Tops frequently contained inset panels of variegated pink or grey marble, complemented by carved floral motifs filled with hand-cut mother-of-pearl shell.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery without modern screws or nails, subtle natural shrinkage along frame borders, and age-appropriate patination to the hardwood. The mother-of-pearl inlay will show slight irregular variation from hand-cutting rather than machine-stamped uniformity.

A tiered occasional table functions effectively as an accent piece beside a sofa or in an entryway alcove. The lower tiers provide structured surfaces for books or ceramics, while the marble top serves as a focal point for lighting or botanical arrangements.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent grit accumulation in the carved crevices. Avoid placing the table near direct heat sources or high humidity, and clean the marble inset using neutral, pH-balanced stone cleaners rather than acidic solutions.
