Large late 19th.c. French oil on canvas c.1880. A courting couple in historical costume meet beside a spring within an imagined landscape featuring a Gothic castle with a lake and mountains in the background. Painted in charming naive style in bright oils, note the lovely sponge work to form the leaves on the trees. Some small patched repairs at the rear. Otherwise very good condition, presented unframed on a simple wooden stretcher.
