Hand Coloured Etching Setters George Vernon Stokes

Description

This is a very charming hand coloured etching of Setters on the game field by George Vernon Stokes. The picture which dates from the early 20th century is signed and numbered 38 of 75. Stokes is best known for his book illustrations and his studies of water fowl, game birds and working dogs. He produced a characteristic style of tinted etchings, produced in limited runs of usually 75. The style of the picture is sparse pencil strokes with colour applied to the dogs and the mallard. The etching is in its original neat solid oak frame which suits it well. The etching measures 48 cms by 46 cms overall, including the frame.
