In 1835, Germany was nearing the end of its Romantic period whereby artists such as Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840) had immersed the nation into a world of rich vistas, dramatic peaks and the sublimity of the natural world.
This gentleman was born into it, surrounded by the philosophies of enlightened minds. And here, he’s asked a local artist to capture that spirit. And while it’s not as refined as a Friedrich, it’s still an interesting glimpse into the mind of a man.
Held in a contemporary frame and glazed.
