Sold by: Chequers Antiques

A fine late 19th century mahogany whatnot, the square top with egg and dart moulded edge and inset with a black marble centre, with a frieze with gadroon beading and with fret cut brackets on square supports corners to a central section with glazed top over a drawer lined with crushed crimson velvet with brass loop handle and floral carved border, on bold fret cut brackets and with a plain shelf below with gadroon edge, on outswept square hoof feet. English, circa 1890.

Condition: Overall very good, the piece is in excellent condition structurally, with no breaks or undue wobbling, the marble insert appears to be the original, and the drawer lining is also original and has some marking to it (probably water), and overall the piece has a great colour and patination, as well as a great presence.
