Perched on the edge of a chair within a plush Victorian room, she’s immersed in correspondence. Perhaps a letter from a loved one, a potential suitor confessing their desires. She’s eager to reply yet hovers over each lovingly-penned paragraph. She could be anywhere, her heart racing while her head spins with dizzying visions.
Many were based on paintings exhibited at the Royal Academy or illustrations from well-loved novels. To add a sense of prestige, ingenious printmakers developed the craft of printing directly onto silk - as we see here.
Held in a later frame and glazed.
